Neil Dowsett’s top tips in becoming a triathlete:
Join a club.
Start slowly and build
Set goals and objectives
Train consistently; fitness comes over a period of time not in a day.
Work on your weaknesses, face your fears!
Just get out and ride a bike, great way to de-stress.
Eat clean, fresh food.
Don’t DIET to lose weight, change habits
Triathlon can be expensive, buy second hand, speak with club members
Enter an event…..keep yourself motivated
Don’t make excuses, we all lead busy lives, it just about making the most of the time we have!

On the 15th September 2015, Chicago will welcome the world’s top-distance triathletes as they compete for a world championship title less than a year prior to the Rio de Janeiro 2016 Olympic Games. More than 8,000 elite athletes will compete for world titles over four days of competitive events. Launched in 2009, The ITU World Triathlon Grand Final and World Championships are hosted by USA Triathlon and are aired in more than 160 countries. Oktra will be cheering for Team Great Britain and Neil Dowsett a 43 year old athlete from Lincolnshire with a great tale to tell.
Neil Dowsett has been participating and competing in triathlon for over a decade and representing Great Britain at the ITU Triathlon World Championships has been his dream for over five years. Sustaining several injuries in the last six years – from Achilles and calf injuries to prolapsed discs and biking accidents – Neil’s journey hasn’t been plain sailing by any means. However, after a 3 month recovery period and an intensive 16-week training schedule Neil is at the peak of his sporting career. With over half a decade of training behind him for this race in particular Neil has covered an impressive 35,000 miles on bike, foot and in the pool!
Since qualifying Neil’s biggest challenge has been raising support and gaining sponsorships to help fund his GBR selection. The Oktra team are delighted to sponsor and support Neil in this world championship title.
Neil will be racing on the morning of 19th September against elite athletes in a 1500m swim in open water, a 40km bike race and a 10km run. Join us on Facebook, Twitter & Instagram as we follow Neil on his remarkable journey!

This year’s BCO Conference was held in Chicago, the home of tall buildings and a place where new development is now underway again. Back in the UK, we’re also seeing more activity despite the recovery being the third slowest in 650 years! So, now we’re building, fitting out and refurbishing again, how will our buildings look and what will our workplaces be like?
